Real Techniques Sculpting Set - REVIEW

22.5.15

Anyone who knows me, knows I love my Kim K contour.  Thing is though, I've been really struggling to find the right brush to define my cheekbones perfectly. My other brushes just haven't been cutting it and no matter what angle or how much I squeeze the bristles, my face is left more streaky than blended. However, when Sam and Nic (Pixxiwoo) announced that they where adding to their already sucesful 'Real Techniques' collection with a 'Sculpting Brush', I knew from that moment I needed that baby in my life.

Superdrug had an amazing offer on last week, reducing the price from £20.99 to £13.99! Oh my. Trying to save up to buy a house meant that I had to really think if I actually needed the brushes. However, with five little words  "Why don't you treat yourself" from Tris,  I thought meh if I'm gonna buy them I may as well do it whilst they are on offer! So I did and collected from store the next day.

When I opened the packet I was surprised by the scent that came off. They stunk of chemicals and glue, making me feel slightly disappointed that I may have to return them! Thankfully after leaving them out untouched over night the smell had disappeared.

The set has 2 exclusives.
Firstly, they are a shiny/metallic pink (I'm not sure of the correct wording haha) finish to them instead of the standard matte which you see on the other brushes. Secondly, the Fan brush can only be bought with the set. To most that would be a selling point in its self, but I don't personally care for them. I find them pointless and that they are the one brush in every collection that gets chucked aside and never used.

Ok so there are 3 brushes in the set all together. Two are in the regular line and like I said before the fan brush is just an exclusive.
The uses:
Sculpting Brush - With a wide angled brush head, designed for contour.-
Fan Brush - Sweeps off excess powder and used for applying powder highlighter to the face.-
Setting Brush - Used for applying powder or highlighter.-

So. Are they any good?
I already owned the powder brush and its one that I often reach for. Its great for applying nose contour (because like I said I love my contour) and sweeping precisely around my face.
The fan brush. Meh. I don't hate but I don't love it. I'm trying to force myself to use it so it doesn't go to waste. Im pretty sure that will last about a week and then it will go into the land of no return.
The sculpting brush though! If you love to contour whether it be lightly or full on Ru Paul drag race style, you need to try this. It blends the product so amazing and effortlessly, making sure there is no uneven distribution of colour. I can feel it hugging my cheek bones whispering 'Its ok, they'll be sharp and everyone will be jealous'. Its so soft, yet so dense, picking up just the right amount of contour colour. Biggest problem though, is I can feel myself wanting to use it for foundation! You know what that means? It will never get used for contour again. (Must resist the urge to test its foundation amazingness.)

I would defiantly recommend the set if you haven't got the powder brush or if you are a big lover of fan brushes. Its a great starter set and if you don't own the brush great value for money!
If you do already own I would just get the sculpting brush for £9.99 on its own as its a cheaper alternative. You can buy from Superdrug
