MUA Matte Velvet - Review and Swatches

For the past year or so there has been a HUGE trend in the makeup industry of 'Matte Liquid Lip Lacquers.' They're basically a liquid lipstick, normally in a lipgloss tube that are highly pigmented and have a matte finish. They come in a range of price tags and colours to suite everyones budget from high end brands to drugstore. Everyone seems to be getting on the bandwagon. Personally though? I don't like matte lipsticks. I find them drying, they make my lips look chapped and not to mention they normally wear off horribly. 

I first bought the 'MUA LUXE Matte Velvet' last year after eyeing up the 'Limecrime Velvetine'. Being too cheap to pay out £15 for one lipstick, this was my next best option. I didn't have high hope. Im very hit and miss with MUA. Some of their products are good and some are god damn awful. I thought I' de give them a go anyway as you never know until you try. Plus there where tons of great reviews on them which is always a positive.

First impressions? The packaging looks and feels nice. Its sleeker and more expensive looking than MUA's traditional packaging which normally falls apart after a few uses. The wands have doe foot applicators which are traditionally seen on lipgloss, but are also a running trend with other liquid lipsticks. The applicator means its easy to apply and shape the product to your lips. The colours are on point to what you see in the tube, highly pigmented and vibrant.

When applying the product onto the lips less is defiantly more. The more you layer, the more you create this horrible caking to your lips. One of the great things about the product too is that the colour doesn't bleed on to your face, so no lip liner is really required!

My favourite to apply was Reckless. The colour is such a beautiful red meaning your teeth look super white and required no layering. My boyfriend just asked me what was wrong with my lipstick in the other two pictures, which just goes to show that they where kinda poo. Serene was the worst to apply. I must have redone it like 5 times before it looked semi ok. Annoyingly it would have been my favourite but application was such a b*tch and the results where just plain horrible!

Though I loved the colour of Reckless, I don't think i'll bother repurchasing or adding to my collection. Like I said I don't really like matte and these have kind of put me off trying any other liquid lipstick. Im more of a rush girl when it comes to lipstick and these defiantly require some time and maintenance. These are great if you do love matte finishes and want to try liquid lipsticks on a budget but just not me.
